Reaktor is open-ended and extremely flexible. I mean, c'mon, people have built video games using Reaktor. Drum machines, samplers, monosynths, polysynths, modular synths, emulations of Arp, Moog, Buchla, EMS, Oberheim, Roland, Sequential, etc, etc, effects of all kinds, granular processors of all kinds, real-time audio stream processing, stutter editors, glitch editors, on and on and on an on.

Twice a year this gets cut in half. But if you haven't tried VCV you really should. Mutable Instruments stuff is my favourite in VCV. But yes I love Reaktor too. Its hard to decide between the two. In VCV I miss some of the very dope ass sounding oscillators. Modular synths and eurorack systems are a nifty piece of hardware. They allow you to build a system, adding or taking out as many different modules as you want. They are expensive and require some technical skills. Softube Modular is the only official software that emulate modules by Doepfer, Intellijel, Buchla, 4ms and Mutable Instuments. I have compared several times Softube with tue real Eurorack modules and it is really hard to notice the difference.

Doepfer modules sound incredibly close to its hardware analogs. Buchla e oscillator is probably one of the best sounding software oscillators.

The only downside is the CPU load. Once you have added lots of modules and do complex modulations it becomes CPU heavy. Voltage Modular is a pretty new fast growing platform.

Other developers have the ability to develop their own modules and sell it via modules marketplace. The most interesting thing here is a set of 30 PSPaudioware modules. And we already have seen them porting their plugins to rising platforms like Auria for iPad.

This time they made a re-engineering their plugins and made their famous effects to be available as modules. Voltage has the key advantage of having an api, thus offering a wide selection of modules, but in terms of sound quality and closeness to the original hardware versions, softube takes the prize.

What can it do that other modular systems can't? Do I need it and why is "Reactor" not enough? In this video I try to express my opinion on this topic. As usual in bad English and wild hand gestures.

The main point is, you choose your tool according to how it flows and how you want to approach your projects. You can make music with anything, if you only want to. But Reaktor Blocks demonstrated that Reaktor could still benefit from the usability and musicality of some limitations — a defined set of knobs and controls and patch points.

The transition was a little rough at first, though. And preset storage and parameter management in hosts could be a chore.

Racks fixed that, but only for official NI Blocks or licensed modules. Everything is included in Reaktor 6. Reaktor 6. The Reaktor User Library is already full of tons of amazing user-created stuff.

Now it benefits from all the features of working in Racks. And working inside Racks tends to solve some confusing parameter mapping that happens with Reaktor patches.
